Original 1971 poster of the film Le Mans drawn by Tom Jung. The film, released in 1971, retraces the 1970 Le Mans 24 Hours race from which most of the shots came.

Le Mansdirected by Lee H. Katzin, depicts a fictional Le Mans 24 Hours race with Steve McQueen in the lead role. The now cult film features real images captured during the 1970 race.

The original poster is based on a gouache and pencil work by Tom Jung. McQueen, in the role of Michael Delaney, stands at the front of the stage and waves to the applause of the crowd, dressed in his mythical racing suit. This drawing, estimated at €13,925, was chosen to illustrate the American and British poster campaigns.

Tom Jung's early works are characterized by the art of caricature. In 1958, he began working on advertising campaigns for foreign films aimed at the American public, and his success led him to the position of independent art director at Metro Goldwyn Mayer in 1963. During the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, he specialized in designing and illustrating Hollywood film posters.
